19 May 7 days Sri Lanka off-the-beaten-track Hidden Gems
Prior to Sri Lanka, I went to India and Maldives. Sri Lanka is a pretty good mix in between both of the countries in term of the people and food. These days I want to complete what I have started. I booked a flight 2018, I missed the flight. Now, is time to make it right.

I am a kind of person who travel for the nature, food and people. You can visualize what I am going to talk about more in my sharing.

- Transportation (sharing a van of 4): Tours and Tickets by The Travel Lanka Leisure (Driver: Sumee) Note: It helps you to save a lot time going from one place to another place. Give you adequate of rest in between the place.
- Accommodation: COLOMBO: Airport Zen Hotel; ELLA: Viewfront Ella; WELIGAMA: Good Story Surf Resort & Restaurant; MIRISSA: HangOver Hostel Mirissa; SIGIRIYA: Sigiri Free View Tree House (RECOMMENDED)
Where to Hike:
Pidurangala Rock We woke up at 4am for this view starting from the temple. You will be bale to finish this route in less than 45mins with your heart pounding loud and proper hiking shoes is recommended. Minimal climbing in between the boulder. When I reached the peak, sitting in between the other backpackers. There is a street dog curl up and sleep beside me for the warmth. Everything just fall into the place. Bring a shawl as you are going to pass by the temple in the beginning. A headlight is needed if you want to catch the sunrise at 6am.
Little Adam’s Peak I can’t help to put a smile on my face while walking on this trail as you will pass by the ceylon tea plantation. There are local selling King coconut along the way. Super easy trail to reach the peak. Slight elevation towards the end. This applies if you didn’t plan to conquer another peak. These is another two more peak if you plan to conquer them all.
Ella Rock my next favorite pick after Little Adam’s. Walking on the train track as early as 4am, little challenging to get the right path. Luckily there is a street dog buddy tagging along my hike. Somehow my six sense told me that my little buddy (local street dog) knows what I say and understand how I feel. We couldn’t manage to find the panoramic peak as stated in the google map which is also the best view for sunrise.
BONUS Short Hike:
Beautiful overview on top of the table top rock.
Sigiriya Lion Rock (Entrance Fees: 5450LKR)
If you are already in Sri Lanka, why skip this? The best view of Sigiriya Lion Rock is from Pidurangala Rock. Here, there’s something else that they can offer to you.
Nine Arch Bridge
You can choose to take a tuk tuk till the train track. As it is going to be quite some walk. If you would like to have a nice picture with the Nine Arch Bridge, it is advice to walk into the tea plantation. Look carefully as some part is quite steep.
Coconut Tree Hill
Basically you can google this place, and you can go through the beach to reach here, else going through a small road besides the residence.
Must do in Sri Lanka:
Lettuce and Cabbage cafe Restaurant, Haputale (Note: Must try the Kottu- if you are cheese lover like I do) Did not purposely come all the way here just to try this. I believe this is available in the city as well. If you happen to be here, just give it a try. As a Malaysian, it taste like a combination of Char Koey Tew and cheese. Same same but different.
Surfing in soft sand Weligama (1500LKR per head)
First time doing surfing beginner class, it took me a while to stand properly on the board itself. You don’t feel like your used a lot of energy, got body pain and hunger right after that. In a good way.
We got a train ride from Ella to Haputale. It is definitely quite an experience. Half ass sitting on the small wall table, which is offered by one of the Japanese gentlemen. During the journey, there’s a huge lose backpack fall right on to his face. Luckily someone helped. We all have limited space, that when I turn my face, I would face on someone’s bag. Basically I can’t move my legs, it is packed. If I moved one foot up, I will lose the space in seconds. Everyone can’t wait to reach their stations. I can see that.
No. 1 Dewmini Roti Shop
Note: Ordered fried rice and savoury and sweet Roti
Cafe Chill in Ella (Note: I came here twice, the night time party scene is lit and breakfast is delicious.)
Special thanks to my Thai buddies for the fun filled trip. They tagged along the trip which make it memorable and different from my any other trip. Kob Khun Krub
